MUNCIE, IN — Vera Mae’s Bistro, where fine dining feels personal, has welcomed lifelong Muncie resident and longtime guest Dawn Brand Fluhler as its new Head of House.
Founded in 1999 by Kent Shuff and Steve Fenimore, Vera Mae’s Bistro has been a cornerstone of downtown Muncie. The restaurant helped spark Muncie’s downtown revitalization with its French-inspired flair, exquisite cuisine, and warm, personalized service.
Two years ago, Kent and Steve retired. General Manager and Chef Nick Kirkpatrick has continued to lead the kitchen and operations with creativity and excellence, ensuring Vera Mae’s remains a beloved downtown dining destination. With the addition of a new head of house, guests can look forward to the warm, personal service that has always been a hallmark of theVera Mae’s experience.
Dawn brings more than a decade of leadership in hospitality, marketing, and public relations, and even more importantly, a heart for people. She is deeply rooted in her hometown, passionate about its downtown, and dedicated to making every guest feel seen, celebrated, and at home.
“Vera Mae’s has always been where I came to celebrate, connect, and feel known,” Dawn said. “Now, I get to help others experience that same magic every night.”
“Dawn gets what Vera Mae’s is all about. I’ve seen firsthand the work ethic, positivity, and heart she brings to every guest interaction,” Vera’s Executive Chef Nick Kirkpatrick said. “I am excited and grateful to welcome her to our management team to carry that spirit forward.”
In her new role, Dawn leads the front-of-house staff and serves as the bridge between guests and the kitchen. She assists with private events and dinners, curates wine and cocktail menus, and ensures Vera’s signature hospitality shines every night of the week.
Ask her what she’s ordering, and she won’t hesitate: the spinach feta wontons with house-made tzatziki to share, tomato basil soup du jour when it’s on, the rich and savory truffled linguini for dinner (with plenty saved for tomorrow’s lunch), and a slice of cheesecake for dessert (maybe even first).
During Happy Hour, her go-to recommendation? “Start with a blueberry Kentucky mule and a crispy fried Campanelle bite. It’s a perfect pairing.”
Vera Mae’s also offers summer outdoor dining, seasonal signature cocktails, Happy Hour specials Tuesday through Thursday, wine tasting events, and live music entertainment. Explore the full menu and more at veramaes.com.
