ANDERSON, IN – The Heartland Scholar House received a $100,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to disrupt the cycle of inherited poverty for single parents and their children pursuing postsecondary education.
“This grant will enable Heartland Scholar House to serve 154 more families in Anderson, Muncie and Marion. CenterPoint was the first funder to support our program and have continued to be a strong partner year after year. We are unified in our goal to eliminate generational poverty in Central Indiana and beyond,” said Briana Price, Deputy Director.
Heartland Scholar House, seeks to end the cycle of inherited poverty for single parents seeking a postsecondary education and their children equally supporting all members of the family unit. The keystone of the scholar house program is providing stable housing for program participants, along with weekly coaching, advocacy, and skill building.
The program has a 88.6% graduation rate. This grant will fund the expansion of the program into two more counties. Heartland Scholar House launched its first campus in Anderson, IN in 2021. Heartland operates Anderson Scholar House, Muncie Scholar House, and Marion Scholar House.
“We at CenterPoint Energy are immensely proud to support Heartland Scholar House since its inception three years ago. Witnessing their dedication in addressing the critical needs of some of Central Indiana’s most vulnerable families—impoverished single parents and their children—has been truly inspiring.” said CenterPoint Energy Foundation spokesperson, Michelle Beer.
