MUNCIE, IN—In 1974, Dungeons & Dragons, a tabletop role-playing game was introduced where players created characters and embarked on adventures in a fantasy world. The game combined storytelling, strategy, and dice-based gaming. Players assumed roles such as warriors, wizards, and rogues, working together to complete quests, solve puzzles, and battle enemies. Since the game was first introduced, Dungeons & Dragons has evolved over the years to influence gaming and pop culture with its deep lore and open-ended creativity.

And now, in 2025, Lucius Conner has brought the game and its style to Muncie in a stunningly well-designed, creative and family-oriented venue.

“D20 Dungeon is a fully immersive venue for individuals to play Dungeons and Dragons, board games, trading card games and a variety of role playing games,” Conner said. “It focuses on the tabletop and allows users to change the venue’s environment using sound, lighting effects, and sound effects. We use AI technology to bring characters to life and allow people to better engage with their gaming partners in the story that they’re telling.”

When he’s not playing table games, Conner is a realtor with Viking Realty. He and his partner Robb Riley own Viking Realty together. The D20 Dungeon venue occupies the basement of the building located at 2501 N. Wheeling Ave, Unit 3 in Muncie.

Conner hasn’t always been a big Dungeons and Dragons game player. In fact it wasn’t all that long long ago that he first began playing the game.

“I didn’t start playing Dungeons and Dragons until about three years ago,” he said. “I have always been a big fan of storytelling. I’ve always been into tabletop games. I’ve been playing tabletop games for about 15 years now. An example of a low key tabletop game might be Monopoly. I play 1000’s of different types of tabletop games. There are dozens of publishers and manufacturers, and we play games like railroad games or stock manipulation games. Things like that.”

How to Reserve the Venue

The operation works much like an Airbnb. The cost is $50 per day and that gets you the space inside from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Bookings are made on the D20 Dungeons website.  (https://d20dungeon.net/) When you rent the dungeon, you receive a door code that lets you in. You enter from the rear of the building through an unassuming, simply labelled door. Upon opening the door you will immediately be thrust into an environment that may remind you of a Lord of the Rings movie.

Conner’s wife Ericka was responsible for designing the interior. She works at Intersection in downtown Muncie and writes a design blog that shows the design and creation of the Dungeon.

Upon entering, you are immediately greeted by custom-made rock walls and a small stairway leading to a lobby/Artificial Intelligence Lab area that leads to the main gaming area. “It really has a unique dungeon vibe,” Conner says.

Dungeon Masters Available to Help

For those who are new to the game and the venue and would like professional game assistance, D20 Dungeon offers a number of Dungeon Masters who can be “rented out” and will come in and instruct you how to play. You can find them on the D20 website.

About the D20 7-foot Dice on the Roof

Recently Conner installed a 7-foot red dice on the roof of the building. Why?

“The only significance of the dice is that I am a huge nerd, and I wanted to draw attention to the building and to the dungeon. And it’s kind of multi purpose, because I intentionally designed it in Viking red, which is our brokerage, and I put the logo for Viking Realty and the D20 dungeon on either side. So depending on which side you’re driving up and down Wheeling, you’ll see a different logo.
